Why a Payment Plan Failed

Check the payment method, Stripe connection state, and installment structure that usually explain a failed plan.

Work out whether the issue is setup or collection

Some plans fail at creation time because the installment structure is invalid. Others fail later because a payment method expires, was never saved correctly for future charges, or the Stripe account is not ready to collect the next payment.

Check the payment method and Stripe state

Open the payment record and confirm that a reusable payment method exists and the connected Stripe account is healthy. If the original checkout did not save a reusable method, later installments can fail even when the first payment worked.

  • Check whether the card or bank method is still valid
  • Confirm the connected Stripe account is active
  • Review whether the plan amount and cadence still match the original agreement

Review the remaining schedule before retrying

A plan can also fail because the dates or totals no longer make sense after edits, refunds, or manual changes. Confirm the remaining schedule before retrying so you do not simply rerun the same broken plan.
